Red Sox beat the Orioles, 6 to 4.
The morning quote:
“We have a saying that great players go to the Pro Bowl but great teams go to the Super Bowl.”
—Patriots owner Robert Kraft to young students at Edward Devotion School in Brookline, which is the elementary school he attended as a kid.
The morning quote II:
“Get ready…its about to get hot!”
—Hanley Ramirez, after his moon-shot home run last night, telling reporters that he’s close to breaking out of his six-week-long slump. We certainly hope so, Hanley.
What you need to know about last night’s Red Sox game.
Boston scored all of its runs in the first three innings, and team ace Steven Wright put on another stellar performance in the victory. Five Sox players had two hits, including Hanley Ramirez, who hit a three-run shot in the third. It was his fifth homer of the year.
Steven Wright watch:
Last night was the 31-year-old’s fifth straight victory, raising his season record to 8-4. His 2.22 ERA puts him at second in the league behind Cleveland’s Danny Salazar (2.19). His average pitch velocity this year is 67.3 mph.
Our favorite headline of the morning comes from Boston magazine:
“Man Carves Giant New England Sports Championship Tree Sculpture.”
Headline that made us laugh out loud this morning:
“New Bengals receiver Brandon LaFell says QB Andy Dalton is a lot like Tom Brady.”
Once again, the WESR is a day or two ahead of the rest of the mainstream press.
Local Boston outlets are just now discovering Tom Brady’s new, suspiciously European looking hairdo, which we pointed out earlier this week.
Today’s goes to Jack P. Thank for spreading the word of the WESR. Any interest in moving to the Cape and becoming an intern here? We won’t pay you anything, and the job security is terrible, but the location is nice.
